From Elizabeth...with love
The last thing I recall is being picked up by comforting arms. Animal Control found me on the side of the road unconscious, in shock, bleeding, and having difficulty breathing. The vet who first examined me believed I had been hit by car – until he felt a lump in my neck where it hurt the most.
With more examination, the vet said I was shot in the mouth. The bullet damaged my upper front teeth, upper jaw, and sinuses before scraping the back of my tongue and lodging in my neck. One inch higher and I would not be here to tell my story.
Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue (MAESSR) heard of my plight and offered to take me under their care and assume the medical charges. I was taken to a MAESSR foster home where I was given a chance to recover, regain my trust and confidence in people, and undergo several additional surgeries. The hole in my mouth slowly closed, and eventually I could eat something other than soft food! I also gained some weight, as I was very thin when I came into care. They think I might have been used for breeding puppies and then discarded.
Today, I am in a wonderful loving home. I share my home with a cat and another MAESSR rescue. Thank you to all who had a part in my recovery...your efforts and commitment make a great difference!
