City cats gone country
Our rescue group is called Operation Wildcats, we do TNR (Trap Neuter Release) on stray and feral cats. We received a call from an organization in Manhattan about a group of cats that had been spayed and neutered and were going to be losing their home. They needed to be relocated. Their caregiver had called all over New York State looking for another organization to take these cats with no luck. When we received the call regarding these cats, as luck would have it, I was just asked by a friend that owns a farm if we had any barn cats.
At the time we did not have any cats, however the following day we received the call from Manhattan. The caregiver made arrangements to have the cats revaccinated and the following weekend was going to make the four-hour drive from New York City to Chittenango, New York, where this farm is located. It took a month of keeping these seven cats confined to a barn to get used to their new surroundings and caregivers.
As of today, we are proud to say that three years later, all the cats are accounted for and roam the farm, keep the rodent population in check, and are well cared for with plenty of food and shelter. These cats were given a second chance when they would have been facing euthanasia if we had not stepped in and helped their previous caregiver. |
