Buddy, Our Medical Challenge

Buddy came into Rescue from a family that could no longer afford his medical bill of over five thousand dollars to care for him properly. Buddy was transported from up-state New York to southwestern Pennsylvania where he went into foster care with the National Chairman of American Lhasa Apso Club Rescue. He was diagnosed with urethral stones and underwent extensive surgery almost immediately, removing 37 imbedded stones. He remained hospitalized for 10 days, then remained in foster care for six weeks until he found a home with the Pfender's and his new Lhasa sister, Suzie, near Philadelphia.

Buddy is a very happy-go-lucky Lhasa that loves everyone. He has malformed front legs, but does not know that he has a different waddle and always keeps up with other dogs walking and playing. He is assessed regularly to ensure stones do not form again. This month, Buddy underwent a very serious disc surgery, this time at the University of Penn Vet School. The prognosis was not good, but Harry is home on crate recuperation and trying to move his back legs.

Thanks to a wonderful family that could afford extensive vet bills and wonderful care during recovery, Harry continues to be his happy self. Until his recovery is complete, he’ll need assistance with walking because of partial paralysis of the back legs. His prognosis is good and hopefully Harry will be able to walk on his own eventually...at the Pro Plan National Dog Show as a Doing More for Pets Ambassador!
